What's the difference between free and Fil Pro?
Everyone gets unlimited capture (text, voice, photos, links) and free keyword search that stays on your device. Fil Pro adds smart search: ask in your own words and Fil finds what you meant, by meaning, time, and kind, then reflects it back. See everything it can find at rootcause.ltd/fil/smart-search.
Does smart search send my notes anywhere?
Only when you run a Pro smart search. To answer it, the text of your thoughts is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic). It's never used to train AI models and is deleted within 30 days. Free keyword search never uses the cloud.
How much is Fil Pro, and is there a trial?
It's a monthly or yearly subscription; the current price shows in the app before you subscribe. New subscribers start with a free trial of about two weeks.
How do I cancel, or restore a purchase?
Cancel any time in iOS Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions, and you keep Pro until the period ends. Reinstalled or on a new device? Tap Restore on the Fil Pro screen.
What's a filament?
Tap a word in a thought to attach something to it: a note, a link, a photo, a video, a PDF, or another thought. It's a way to give a thought depth without cluttering it.
Does Fil work offline?
Capture and free keyword search are fully offline. Saving a link fetches that page's preview, and Pro smart search needs a connection (it asks the AI provider). On a few devices, voice transcription may use Apple's speech service.
Where are my notes stored?
On your device. Fil has no account and no server. If you back up your device (iCloud or a computer), your thoughts are included in that backup.
How do I back up or move my thoughts?
They're part of your device backup. There's no separate export yet; tell us if you'd like one.
Why does Fil ask for the microphone / speech / camera?
Microphone and Speech Recognition let you record and transcribe voice notes; Camera lets you take a photo. Manage these any time in iOS Settings › Fil. (Choosing existing photos uses Apple's photo picker and needs no permission.)
Is my voice sent anywhere?
Fil transcribes on-device wherever your device supports it. On devices without on-device support, iOS may use Apple's speech service to transcribe. Fil never sends your audio to us.
How do I delete a thought, or everything?
Delete a single thought in the app ("landfil"). To remove everything, delete the app.
The screensavers are locked.
Some ambient screensavers unlock as you create thoughts (10 or more). Keep filling.
